SURYA TO LAUNCH RUG DESIGNS BY ARTIST ALEXANDER WYLY AT ATLANTA MARKET 6.26.15
Surya has partnered with Asheville, N.C.-based artist and textile designer Alexander Wyly to introduce an inspired new line of hand-crafted rugs. Intended to add a modern touch to traditional spaces, the spirited designs play upon the dynamic harmony between simplicity and complexity, the organic and geometric, ancient and contemporary.
The collections, which will be unveiled at Atlanta Market, include
Ridgewood, finely hand-tufted designs with rhythmic patterns accented by viscose and presented in sophisticated, natural hues;
Lockhart, featuring a tight micro-loop technique to enhance bold, interlocking graphic forms; and
Anagram, hand-tufted wool motifs with an energetic, undulating pattern created by the interplay of crisp geometric shapes.
“My aim is to infuse a sense of joy, wonder and beauty into people’s lives with home decor that playfully combines vibrant color, texture and pattern,” said Alexander Wyly, designer. “It was a great experience working with the Surya product development team to interpret my design vision into beautiful rugs that will not only enhance interiors but, hopefully, transform them into artful and unexpected living spaces.”
Wyly, who gathers inspiration from a number of sources, including daily walks in the woods of the Blue Ridge Mountains, tribal art and his travels to India, Japan, Thailand and New Zealand, has been creating innovative designs for upholstery, wall coverings and rugs for the past four years.
“Alexander Wyly exemplifies Surya’s goal to deliver fresh design to today’s consumers,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “His lively designs have universal appeal with a contemporary yet timeless style that complements a broad range of lifestyles and decor needs.”
Added Wyly, “Surya was the perfect choice to bring my designs to life. I have long admired the brand’s attention to detail, strong ethics and energetic drive within the marketplace and felt a strong synergy from the start. I look forward to building upon our collaboration.”
Market attendees are invited to view the new rug collections at Atlanta Market –
AmericasMart 11-A-1 – from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Surya will serve a complimentary hot catered breakfast and lunch each day, along with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails each evening.

Also on display will be a
significantly expanded lighting collection, which has grown to encompass more than 350 thoughtfully-curated options for a variety of lifestyles and design needs. New for this market are coordinated table and floor lamps, more crystal and glass designs and features such as laser cut shades, double shades and colored linings.
“While providing an extensive range of home accessory categories is valuable, that’s only part of the equation,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “It’s important also to create depth within each category, so that designers and end consumers can build their ideal room without having to shop multiple sources. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive range of styles, textures and color palettes that work together seamlessly across our entire offering so that anyone – regardless of design aesthetic or budget – can achieve a truly cohesive look.”
Towards that end, Surya recently introduced made to order art and rug programs designed to provide increased customization options with quick turnaround times.
Added Tiwari, “It’s not a one-size-fits-all world. More and more, people are seeking their own signature look and to define their spaces in a very personal way. By offering convenient tailor-made options, we are making design more accessible. We look forward to sharing our latest products and programs with market attendees.”
