SURYA MAKES YEAR-END GIFT TO PROJECT MALA ON BEHALF OF CUSTOMERS 12.30.14

Donation will give children in weaver communities in rural India access to education and a brighter future

CALHOUN, Ga. — Dec. 30, 2014
— As part of its commitment to improve the social and economic welfare of the communities in which its weavers reside, Surya has made a year-end donation on behalf of its customers to Project Mala. The international nonprofit organization offers education, nutrition and healthcare to children in remote villages in Northern India who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend school – making it possible for them to thrive and realize their potential while also giving hope to future generations.

The funds will be used to provide the children of Surya weavers with classroom education, uniforms, nutritious meals and medical care, and will also support a facilities expansion project at one of Project Mala’s six schools. Additionally, a portion of the donation will be allocated to a recently introduced program that provides preschool tuition for young girls so that they are able to enter primary school with the same advantage as boys of a similar age.

“Coming myself from a small village in Northern India where many of our weavers live, I understand the importance of education in empowering children to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “In a similar way, our customers empower us and inspire us each day to grow as a company. We are pleased to honor them by making this important, and impactful, donation to Project Mala.”

This donation builds upon a partnership between Surya and Project Mala announced earlier this year, wherein Surya agreed to sponsor 160 students annually. To further support Project Mala’s educational initiatives, Surya has increased its overall annual financial contribution from approximately $31,000 in 2014 to $50,000 in 2015.

Surya also partners with Akshaya Patra to provide more than 7,300 underprivileged children in rural India with nutritious meals to help keep them in school, and works with Thrive Educate (formerly East Meets West) to sponsor 200 annual high school scholarships for Indian girls. CALHOUN, Ga. — Dec. 5, 2014 — As Surya heads into the winter market season, the rug and home accessories brand is gearing up to showcase a number of fashion forward products in Marsala, the hue named yesterday by color authority Pantone as its 2015 Color of the Year. Anticipating the trend towards richer, more saturated color, Surya’s product development team has artfully translated the inviting hue and coordinating tonals into a diverse mix of solids, stripes, florals and geometric patterns well-suited for any living environment.

“We are always seeking new ways to bring color into our products in an inspired and meaningful way,” said Lynne Meredith, vice president of Product Development, Surya. “During the past year, we have seen a return to updated classics that have their roots in tradition yet feel very fresh and modern.
